Nightmare debut for Horațiu Moldovan (27 years old) at his new team, Real Oviedo. The Romanian goalkeeper marked the first official match between the squad in La Liga, but his performance coincided with a shameful elimination from the Spanish Cup, in front of a team from the third echelon.
The game on the field of Ourense CF, occupying the 20th (last) place in Group 1 of Primera RFEF, seemed like a simple formality for the La Liga team.
Horațiu Moldovan, humiliated in extra time by a team from the 3rd League
Oviedo opened the scoring quickly in the 17th minute through Brekalo, but the hosts restored parity in the 53rd minute through Jerin Ramos.
After only eight minutes, Luka Ilic gave the visitors the advantage again (61'), but in the 90th + 4th minute, Ourense sent the match to extra time, to everyone's amazement.
After that goal, disaster struck: the third league side scored twice, through Ouhdadi (98') and Bouzaig (112'), making the final score 4-2 in favor of Ourense.
In the 120th+2nd minute, Moldovan parried a shot from 11 meters executed by Guerrero, but the parry counted only for statistics.
First match, first nightmare
For Horațiu Moldovan, the former goalkeeper from Rapid and Atletico Madrid, the match with Ourense was the official debut in the Real Oviedo goal.
Although he had some good interventions, the Romanian international was far from avoiding his team's defensive disaster.
Newly promoted La Liga side Real Oviedo are ignominiously knocked out of the Copa del Rey by a side fighting to avoid relegation to Spain's fourth division.
Currently quoted at 2.2 million euros on the specialized website Transfermarkt, the Romanian goalkeeper has evolved throughout his career at CFR Cluj, Hermannstadt, Viitorul Târgu Jiu, Ripensia Timișoara, Sepsi OSK, Rapid, Atletico Madrid and Sassuolo.
