

The publication notes that in the list of priorities for its future six-month chairmanship, Cyprus, which is not a NATO member, mentioned the word “defense” only 11 times, while in Denmark’s list of priorities there were 32 mentions.
The parties at war in Europe are also mentioned less frequently by Cyprus – Ukraine (17 versus 41) and the aggressor country Russia (6 versus 22).
According to Euractiv, the document shows a “shift from Russia to the Mediterranean”, in particular they want to pay special attention to maritime security. At the same time, the Baltic Sea, which is used by the Russian Federation for oil transit by the “shadow fleet,” is not mentioned in the document, journalists write.
In a comment to the publication, the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU said that the document is still at an early stage of preparation. It is planned to be submitted to the EU leadership for approval at the end of November.
