Costel Gâlcă, the coach of Rapid, reached for the phone to call his father after the explosion occurred today in a block of flats in Bucharest, in sector 5, Rahova district. This is because his father lives in the neighboring block, next to the staircase where the tragedy took place that took 3 lives.

This morning, a little after 09:00, a strong explosion occurred inside a block of flats in the Rahova district of Bucharest. The hypothesis that is being worked on now is that of a gas leak.

The force of the explosion was so great that it destroyed two floors and damaged the building of the “Dimitrie Bolintineanu” High School, located in the neighborhood of the block. Three people died and 20 were injured, according to libertatea.ro. Of these, 5 refused transport to the hospital.

The tragic incident on Calea Rahovei caused the coach of Rapid, Costel Gâlcă, to put his hand on the phone and call his father, to confirm that he is safe. That's because Costel's father lives in the same building, in a neighboring staircasebeing also its administrator, according to golazo.ro.

A source told the quoted publication: “His father is fine, he didn't suffer anything. Costel called him as soon as he learned about the explosion in the block. Fortunately for them, his father answered and assured him that he was healthy.”

The Rapid coach grew up in that building.

The explosion caused the facade of the block to partially collapse. The head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, said that the block was in danger of collapsing, so it was completely evacuated.

The “Dimitrie Bolintineanu” Theoretical High School was also evacuated, damaged as a result of the explosion, with broken windows and damaged walls.

According to ISU, a teacher and three children inside the high school were medically evaluated, one of the students being transported to the hospital.
